Organic Gardener - Apprentice

Crown Point Ecology Center

Introduction

This apprenticeship is made possible by a grant from the Foundation for
Sustainability and Innovation of Laguna Beach, California.

The Center

Crown Point Ecology Center is a 130 acre historic farmstead owned and
operated by the Sisters of St. Dominic of Akron, Ohio. The site overlooks
the scenic Cuyahoga River Valley just north of Akron and includes
woodland, meadows, and wetland and pond ecosystems. Crown Point's mission
is to integrate ecological responsibility and spirituality. Our interfaith
emphasis makes this place open to all who share the desire to renew earth
and spirit. The Center sponsors a variety of practical programs that focus
on earth-friendly living, earth literacy, environmental issues and regular
gatherings for earth-focused prayer, ritual and celebrations.

Organic agriculture is a major focus of the Center. The Foodbank Farm
grows produce which is distributed through the Akron/Canton Regional
Foodbank. Over the past few years we have donated nearly 70,000 pounds of

Aprovecho Research Center www.aprovecho.net

Aprovecho offers a semester long 'internship' program where one can learn about permaculture, sustainable forestry and appropriate technology (biodiesel and wood burning stoves, solar cooking, renewable energy... etc.) for tuition of $1000. Interns live in a strawbale dormitory 5 miles outside of Cottage Grove, OR. You also can do work trade here. Feel free and contact me to ask about the place - I worked on designing a wood burning bread oven for a month between May-June 2005. Abbie abiyoda@yahoo.co.nz
